She had a difficult time seeing me for who I was and valuing me for what I was. I had to find all of that outside of my house and culture. I loved the ritual and beauty around it. ME: It was difficult for me to transition between going into a profession that was going to change the world or was going to move the needle in any way in terms of equality or justice.
My initial question was, Is there nobility in fashion? And then I realized there is nobility in everything. It clicked when I watched this talk with a woman who had a near-death experience. From that perspective, it was the most noble job you could have here on earth. It really shifted my perspective in terms of what I consider valuable or noble. I realized I could use design as a vehicle for whatever I wanted to do.
